What a great book! First off it is not a western it is a thriller.Set in the post civil war era the pace of travel and communication are understandably slow but that just enhances the story. I love Steve Richer's books! Highly recommend all of them!
Not really a western, way better!
Don't let the fact that this seems like a western fool you. This book is more like the recent Sherlock Holmes movies with Robert Downey Jr. It's chock-full of action, like James Bond in 1869. On top of that, the plot is riveting. It starts with a simple kidnapping but there's this whole conspiracy to uncover. Zeke is a great character and the novel is truly well-written. It really took me by surprise and it would make an excellent movie on its own. In fact, I hope Hollywood gets a hold of this novel soon! J
